The whole track, as I check google maps satellite now. In 1993 or 1994 I think

Boat straight across from Cardwell, motoring up through the mangroves to meet a track to the ocean side. From memory, through sand and scrub, and not very far. I think they said the resort was just somewhere up left of the track.

From vague memory, we had 2 nights camping out. We might've got to the southern point for the boat early to mid afternoon for the trip to Lucinda. Don't have any memories after walking along a very long beach.

Always wanted to go back and do it again. Think there was a long waiting list then, like a year. Who knows what it's like now.

Yes, Hinchinbrook was a fabulous walk, and not too hard. Just a couple climbs but nothing tricky.

As for the BOM site...

The Bureau - makes me think of the FBI (too many novels and too much TV)

I now take a look every day, but the radar maps can't be seen properly on a 14" Lenovo laptop. (Quite a few other maps I use from time to time have this problem.) On unstable internet it's just plain aggravating, like the Telstra coverage map, jerky & jumps all over the place.

A lot of apps, including weather apps, I don't waste time using -- they're full of stuff I don't need or want, in my experience. I bookmark the multiple sites I use regularly, keep in folders on phone and laptop - quicker to access a page than waiting for an app to open.

Thankfully, the wind has eased here today.

The problem with the radar is on their new test site. It’s a whole of Oz image that you zoom into.

Layed a shotload of turf today, great weather for it almost didn't crack a sweat.
3° in Ravenshoe this morning apparently.

I see a photo of someone on the cane flats between here and tully with 6.9c reading on their weather station..other reports of 8c in Tully Town...my thermometer on th e windowsill was reading 11c at 7am and likely would have been less if placed out in open ..

The days have been beautiful though and even some occasional decent fishing weather..

and nice to see that weatherwatchers are also nature buffs...

Weary I did a year of Coastal management straight out of high school at Lismore with the same dream of becoming a marine biologist...Stupidly I thought we were going to be cruising around saving nature and rescuing turtles and didnt realise that it was all accumulating science based data..

SM I may have mentioned before but I know a guy that went out of Fishers creek in his tinny and without a GPS got lost in trying mangroves trying to get back to ramp in the late evening...they spent a rather uncomfortable night in a open tinny with no food and getting eaten alive by midgies before finding their way back the next day..

28 thats very impressive to do that hike particularly as you have to carry your supplies and camping gear on your back the whole way..

Wow. 4.3°C is pretty low.

I think some out here could match that.

13 degrees, in the house, this morning at 6am. Still 13 at 8am. Cold all night even with a blanket over the doona.

Anyone remember when it was 5° in Cairns. I was living in Cairns then, think it was 2007.

If I remember right it was minus-10° in Ravenshoe. A big frost on the Tableland. All the green grass turned brown - thought I was back in spinifex country.

The Hinchinbrook walk wasn't that hard, back then. Four or five of us, all worked in a bushwalking shop, so the boss paid for it. I used his equipment. The backpack was a perfect fit, I bought one the same & still have it.

13°C here this morning also 28. I looked up the coldest recorded temp for Cairns and apparently it was 6.2° on June 23 1946. That was probably at the airport. Forecast is for 12° tonight.

I can understand how they got a bit lost at Fishers Creek Scott, it's like a maze there. We went straight across the channel to the island side so it was easy to find our way back in the arvo. No gps back then.
