It's the population over there. The cyclone is only about 100km wide, over here, that's most likely to miss a heavily populated area. |

Thats a good point...Florida is also very low and an exposed peninsula that cops Hurricanes from both the Gulf on the west and the Carribean to the east.... So Milton was a bit of a fizzer in the end.. Hit as a cat 3 but still the usual flooding but not the structural damage and predicted storm surge thankfully.. Amazing how quickly a massive system like that can be affected by wind shear... Meanwhile on the home front the Marchie scale is probably a low end Cat 2 after being downgraded from an almost catastophic Cat 5 just a week ago.. Hopefully by next week they will fizzle out entirely...it cant come soon enough..

I followed Milton on the sat images Scott and it was amazing how quickly it weakened as it approached the coast. I looked up the population of the Tampa area, 3 million so it was a good thing.
I did a bit of work at Kareeya Power Station in Tully Gorge years ago and if we went fishing the best supply of bait was always the trusty marchie.
We're still stuck on 5mm for the month here.

Marchies were absolutely insane last weekend down the N Johnstone. Worst I've ever experienced. We hiked down off the Palmerston and the girls lasted about 15 minutes before we had to hike straight back out again. Literally covering their leggings, just madness. |

6mm here so far for the month, 85 is the 11 year average so a bit to catch up yet.
It gets like that Ron, I remember taking the grandaughter to the centenary Lakes to feed the ducks and decided for a walk on one of those tracks. The mossies had us running out of there, they were so thick.
I nearly fell off my chair, 8pm forecast of 0-50mm for White Rock. WOW. We'll see what happens

Yeah I see a bit of discrepancy in the models with some between 1 inch and 3 inchs for us down here..and up to 50mm at your house though SM..lol
Looks like it could be patchy as you would expect this time of year so i guess we wait and see...its started showering on and off for us this evening...
Any rain would be appreciated..

10 mm here too... BOM shows 119mm for jarra Ck up towards tully gorge.. I messaged a mate who has a fruit farm up there and he said nah 10 mm as well so dont know how that anomaly reading happened... ah at least it will keep the dust down for an hour or so for your roadwork Bunyip...are roadworkers like the CMFEU Bunyip..?.they just down tools and go home on full pay if the forecast even mentions rain or heat..?... are you a sparkie SM..?..what were you doing up at the power station..? No rain here this morning. The wind was up a bit overnight. Yeah Scott, I did electrical work in the 80's and 90's. We did a bit of work for Kareeya in their substation. Lovely spot there, it can get very hot though. Spent a bit of time at the old Cardstone village which was nice. 3rd week of Oct done and still 6mm of rain here. Since 2011, October totals have been between 13 and 412.5mm so it's starting to look like the lower end of the scale this year. The lawn is getting that brown tinge to it. Nice spring weather though.

24.5mm here for October, that's well below the average of 85. The 412.5mm in 2011 really helped the average otherwise it would be around 50. Cyclone season begins tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what this year brings.

The neighbor tells me october was about 1/3 of average.. and looking at the longer term charts I cant see anything for the week or 2 ahead either... Yeah sorry 28 your link actually works... You gotta wonder about 866 million dollars being spent and thats the best they can do for a website..and then for the CEO to arrogantly think there is no accountability for the spend or results and being 150 Million over budget....its just unbelievable what we let our government agencies get away with... Welcome back 28. 0.5mm here for the month so far, seems low but at the same time last year we'd had 1mm. Ended Nov with 16.5mm. I must admit I haven't checked the BOM site lately but had a quick look yesterday and it seemed not much has changed, that's a lot of money. Cairns' lawns looking very brown at the moment. Nov: 0.5mm YTD: 2743mm Edit: Speaking of government money, the last time I was at Holloways Beach, the esplanade road washout hadn't been fixed since the Jasper event.
