News on the WZ, Australia's tropical cyclone risk increasing next week, Apparently the cause is the MJO passing to the north of Australia.

No rain here yesterday but a good storm in the Mareeba area blocked the sun for a couple of hours which made things a bit cooler.

YTD:104.5mm

Edit: They're saying the latest monsoon onset in Darwin was on the 25th Jan 1973. Still no sign of it yet this year.Blink

I was working in cow bay today till we had a storm hit hard about 13:45
Got home and it was dry, but the storm has fried my ADSL modem, lucky I had a starlink here ready for just this situation.

Tring to rain here now, but only just spitting.

Cheers

We had hail Scott, for about 5 minutes or so. Only small, about the size of a pea or a bit larger. Very unusual for here. 33mm of rain quickly as well so it was a good storm. I think the Edmonton area got the best of it around here, plenty of lightning and thunder in that direction.

I have to say I'm glad to have missed all the action..

Had a big spray of the shadehouse today hoping we wouldnt get a storm...

Were the clouds green as they appproached with the hail...thats what i remeber about impendingh hail storm as a youngster in NSW...?

and what do you think of the starlink Bunyip..?...it looks like we will be going that route once Telstra stops repairing our landline issues..

Heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that starlink is at capacity in a few areas in Australia so they are not taking any more subscribers. I won't be getting so haven't actually done any research on it myself.
Maximum 21c where i am in Victoria today.

I bought a Starlink Mini. Paid for first month to make sure it works, then will pause til I need it. $80 for 50GB.

It's a Roaming plan, not residential, so can be used anywhere.

Ended up with 37.5mm out of the storm yesterday. A couple of extra gauges between here and Gordonvale would have been handy.

No green tinge to the storm here Scott. Just not enough ice in it I think.

YTD: 142mm

Edit 1540: The temp was 39°C in the carport this afternoon, a hot one out there today.

That's what my plan was. Got it and put it away after checking it worked.
Still had a few days left on the first months contract, so put it outside and back online.

I see they now have a $15/5g plan , so if you don't use it for movies ect and only want
to have basic net that might be a good option...

managed to pick up 8mm from showers yesterday evening.
Pretty hot and sticky here this arvo.

Cheers

Just 1mm this morning from a passing storm yesterday. Nice lightning show out to the west last night.

YTD: 143mm

Edit: Have been installing plinths under my colorbond fence the last couple of days to stop rainwater from next doors driveway flooding the carport. It has been very hot work. Knocked off early today, beer time.

Edit 2 1440: Just reached 39°C in the carport. That's 2 days in a row now.

Power went out last night and is still off.
Looked at the website, not listed.. Rang, oh first report.. Can hear other gennies going so it's not just me.
Seems we all just thought it was bigger than just our few houses and nobody reported it :) :)

Yeah SM it's not real nice weather for working outside.

A bit of trivia, we are about 396mm down to this date last year.

A couple of photos of the fencing Ron. They are stackable aluminium sleepers from Bunnings. Cost about 68 dollars each.

Had a very noisy storm form and head towards us only to totally miss us and skirt around the back of the range.Cursing
Seems like just another hot day with no sign of any real change yet.
I'm ready for a good monsoon burst..

We had a short nasty storm this arvo, 12mm in no time. It seemed to really intensify as it moved away. Very hit and miss at the moment.

31°C forecast for tomorrow which would be nice.

What is it about cairns and all these storms this year...?

We look like getting some and then they just go always go away without any measurable rain..I'm still watering all the potted plants several times a day and nights with random sprinklers to stopt the lawn from dying off and newer garden beds from collapsing...

yeah SM the old overland flow from neighboring properties is a real PITA isnt it...My folks old home in NSW had the same problem and all the storm runoff water and sandy soils would fill up there shed....even when they tried blocking it like you have the bed of crusherdust/gravel would wash out and it would find a way through/under....if that doesnt work you could maybe make a level concrete footing to lay those plinths on...

I just about died trying to do outside work over the weekend in 1000 degree temps..I was quite surprised how long I needed to lay on my back in the shade to get my beans back to be able to have another crack at it...no fun getting old..!

Too hot to go out fishing so think I'm going to take the next couple of days to play around at the range this week..My new toy arrived and i need to sight it in and have some fun..

No rain here so far today but at least the temp was bearable, bit humid though.

Your right Scott, crusher dust goes to slop in heavy rain. I'll probably put a thin concrete barrier in front of the sleepers and then do a bit of paving. That should keep the water out, hopefully.

Your new toy wouldn't look out of place on a Bond or other action movie.BigGrin

YTD: 155mm

Edit 2110: I don't know why the concentric circles are on the radar. They've been happening for a while now.
