Sunday morning we apparently had a shower, puddles on the road. Late yesterday afternoon we caught a brief passing storm. Wouldn't have been much in a gauge.
Friend is having similar problems Bunyip. He's bought one of those old fashioned very long things and making what he needs himself.

A real stinker here today and looks like no real reprieve all week except for a possible storm or 2....I did run to innisfail and just about every person working inside stores was complaining about the heat....I just had to shake my head and think well I'm 56 and i work outside in whatever conditions occur... sure i try and have a couple of hours break in the middle of the day but if i dont work i dont get paid so no use complaining about it... yeah Bunyip and 28 apparentlly ADI have said they have pistol powders in production and supplies will start being available in the new year..cleavers had a limited supply there a couple of weeks ago but it went quick..its harder for us up here though because powder cant be posted..a range of primers are also starting to appear so hopefully this side of things will get back to some sort of normal though prices have gone up of course.. I put a deposit on a new handgun today and went .22 just because i can only have one real handgun during the first year of licencing and figured at $90 aper 500 for ammo was going to be somewhat cheaper then about $40-45 for a pack of 50 factory 9mm or 38 special whilst I am learning and practising...and for social club matchs .22 is accepted for most disciplines.. I can easily put through 2-400 rounds in a couple of hours practising on targets so it seems silly to do it with larger calibres when guys at the range are happy to lend a larger caliber when i just want to take a box or 2 of that ammo and have a bit of fun..i shot a box of .38 special in a 357 revolver the other day....I'm so bummed I cant also get a revolver now as well...cowboy guns are so much fun.. and yeah bunyip all the jumping through hoops is finally worth it and I also needed a letter to get accredited to shoot larger calibres then a .38 which was just a formality and now just a holster accreditation for club IPSC shoots and all the BS is finally over... You should blitz it though if you have someone to talk you through whats required..the hardest part is actually researching all the steps and whats required... Anyway i had a nice cool swim this arvo which helped combat the heat...a storm or 2 would be most appreciated... Edited by user Monday, 16 December 2024 6:38:04 PM(UTC)

I'm hearing you Ron, glad I'm in a machine with A/C, it's very unpleasant weather to be doing manual or outside work. Had a big push the last 2 days to get some gravel moved while it's dry, loaded over 100 trucks each day, as well as pushing up incoming material from 14 semis. That's it for me till next year.
Storms out the back this arvo, but nothing to bring them over the edge.
Sunday night was the first use of A/C for this summer, followed by last night and I just put it on to cool the bedroom down. I don't mind being warm but a good nights sleep is very important.
Cheers

No rain here in the last 3 days. Hot and humid yesterday when finishing the mowing and taking the green waste to the dump. The forecast map is looking a bit better for the next week, up to 150mm from about Cape Melville down to Mackay at the moment.

Are the roads finally all sorted up there Bunyip a year on after the big floods of december 2023...? looks like we may be in for a wet week ahead if this modelling of a sloppy low comes to fruition.

Your right Scott, things are starting to look promising now. Lots of those red blobs appearing on the radar now. Edit: Cairns area in the blue zone, nice. Edited by user Wednesday, 18 December 2024 3:06:24 PM(UTC)

I hate missing the wet season. Although seems to be rain everywhere.
Good storm in Ayr last night. Good lightshow.
Lots of water lying around Proserpine and south in all the low spots. Nice overcast day for driving. Dumped rain for a while halfway between Marlborough and Rockhampton. Bright sunshine in Rocky.

First flood watch for between Innisfail and Bowen... http://www.bom.gov.au/cg...rap_fwo.pl?IDQ20900.htmlOther rainfall accumulation models have Cairns in the mix so dont be surprised it the Floodwatch is extended further north... SM, lets hope that its not a repeat of last December ... Where you headed to now 28..you escaping before the wet season..?

The amazing thing about last December is that in all the time I've recorded rainfall here, it's the highest monthly total for any month and it fell in 6 days.

Thanks SM. Back to Armidale & family for Christmas. Not surprised by the "First flood watch for between Innisfail and Bowen". There was so much water lying around, especially between Ayr Bowen and Proserpine. Proserpine it was almost up to the road at 8:30 this morning, in the usual spots. Won't take much to flood at all. Not escaping the wet season Scott, sadly I'll be missing it. When you don't get rain for ten months every year every little bit of Wet is precious. 7mm this morning. A few flashes of lightning and rumbles around overnight. 123mm at Mt Sophia. WZ forecast for White Rock 40-80 for today so it could be interesting later on.
Temp range for here for Dec so far 24-34 so not too bad. Humidity has been a bit of a problem though.

So this is an overview of the forecast from Higgins....looks like a wet one ahead
A broad low pressure system will drag topical north west to north east winds into a convergence area from Cairns to Townsville along a south east wind convergence reaching Mackay tonight. ⛈️This will lead to a high risk of very heavy rain and storms causing flash flooding in these areas overnight into tomorrow. 🔴 A tropical low is likely to develop along the coast near Townsville during Friday with a continued heavy rain and flood threat between Mackay and Cairns⛈️
Geez you been doing some miles lately 28..a real nomad now..!

I don't think you have to pay a subscription to know this system was on the cards. The GFS has been talking of this little low for about 3 days now. BOM has been saying the same thing. A couple of showers starting to fall here now. Edit 1740: Still quite dry here but I did hear once that the monsoon does it's best work at night. I see the flood watch is now extended north to Cooktown. Edited by user Thursday, 19 December 2024 6:26:15 PM(UTC)

Yes I have done some miles. Visiting my sister in Armidale for Christmas.
As for flooding, I usually drive the Burnett Highway from Rockhampton. Road closed somewhere around Goomeri. Over the road at Ban Ban Springs. Had to go via Mundubbera Dalby road and that had water I had to drive though as well. At least the underbody is now very clean.

Good morning weather watchers 36mm here this morning. Yeah the pictures are looking good and we should see some good rain over the next couple of days. With the sea temps and heat that has been around it was always going to rain Scott, no the roads have a long way to go, the work that has been done this year though is great and they have made good progress on the Alexandria range, the Noah range though is still a mess. All local roads are still in need of attention, but they didn't award tenders till September and work only started late October, so only a few km's have really been completed. Bring on whatever it is we are going to get, it's wet season and I'm ready Cheers |

A nice big yellow orange blob sat over Cairns in the early hours this morning, had to lift the roller door to let the water run out at one stage. Ended up with 130mm. Lots of red dots on the map. It looks like the Townsville area got a good drop. Last years annual total was the highest I've recorded here, we broke that last night. Dec: 449mm YTD: 3343.5mm Edit: Last year's annual total, 3334mm. Edited by user Friday, 20 December 2024 1:48:56 PM(UTC)

Yeah it's been a wet year SM .. And the storms the last couple of weeks are some of the best in years. I've been loving watching all the light shows.. Very steamy getting the place tidied up today. better go back out before I have another beer and do another set of batteries on the brushcutter.. Feels like we might miss out on this one, just get real hot and a few showers..
Cheers
