I've fixed up the sheet so all the numbers add up right and set the averages at the very bottom, for 20 years of recordings.. I only play with spreadsheets once a year and every year it is the same, Takes a couple of goes to get my head back around it, got going and knocked it over in no time. Good morning, another cracker of a morning up here, with a nice thick fog rolling down the river, really should be in the boat.
Our great site operator got straight onto my request for a bigger signature line and has fixed it, so now the link is there.

Well, next time a cat 1-2 heads towards Cairns I want the first 15 minutes of the ABC news to be devoted to coverage of it (including an interview with the Premier).

That would be nice wouldn't it. Respect! I remember the cyclone that hit SEQ northern NSW in 1973. I lived at Newport on Sydney's northern beaches. It was pretty wild that far south. It shifted sand to cover the beach carpark, main road, and the north end of the main street. A friend had anchored in his 25 foot yacht off Byron Bay & was washed up on the beach. I had a look on Facebook about Cyclone Alfred this morning and see the scaremongering on BOM radar fan club..
One "Weather inflencer" thats doing regular up scary dates is "Tims severe weather" (a couple of weeks back he was warning that the cyclone there was going to be one of the worst on record and would be "catastrophic for WA" and I'm sure he is just a kid posting [censored]from his mothers basement...
another is Cyclonesoz who in his last post is warning all residents in SEQ to "board up their windows".....
fair dinkum ..the number of people that take these clowns seriously is just amazing...
That said it sure is an interesting system though...i thought the odds of a named cyclone hitting Brissie was very slim indeed but we wait and see..regardless of wind intensity I think its already making a mess of the beaches down there..

Not a drop of rain here for nearly 7 days now. Very unusual for early March.
Your right Scott, lots of scaring people going on again. It's still a cat2 so I suppose the biggest risk will be people doing stupid things. It will be interesting watching from the outside for a change, especially because it is happening in SE Queensland.

My entire work team are in the SE corner and they are all losing their minds! I tried to reason with them that they have storms windier than this down there all the time and they should make sure nothing will blow away in their yards and just calm down. I've given them all the 'tools' we use to track and forecast etc, hoping that would help them understand what is actually going on rather than the BS on the news - to no avail. One of them then told me I couldn't possibly understand what they were going through down there! My organisation has been putting out daily update "newsletters" all week for staff, and have already organised disaster leave for everyone. It's great that they are being proactive, but when a Cat 5 was pointing at me, they were still putting meetings into my calendar and couldn't understand why I wasn't keen to travel to Townsville for a couple of days. I bet they don't remember any of this next time I'm in the firing line!

This scenario with Alfred in SEQ reminds me a bit of Cyclone Joy in late 1990. It sat to the NE of Cairns for a couple of days with the media saying we were all doomed. Big difference though was Joy was Cat4. Edit 2155: JTWC now saying 40kt when passing Moreton Island so it's not looking to bad. Edited by user Thursday, 6 March 2025 9:58:45 PM(UTC)

That's because it isn't too bad i think. Bloody southern lows have more bang than this thing. Flooding is flooding, if they get that, but the wind, seriously, it's just a gale. |

It's over the islands, and just reached Redcliffe as I tap this at midnight.
Looks like Brisbane City is under dumping rain.
RF agreed. Southern lows can be just as bad. I remember quite a few doozies from living in Sydney.

That's now 9 days here without rainfall. I think we need Alfred to move on so the rest of Qld north of Brisbane can get on with their wet season.

There's a few spots of rain on the radar now. Bit of grey sky to the south. Dunno about Alfred. He's still sitting over water according to the BoM 1:38pm track. Just on dark, ran into heavy rain at Brinsmead, for about 2 minutes. There had been rain around Manoora and Manunda. Think it's occasional thunder I'm hearing right now. Nice to have some moisture again.

Well nice to find 8mm in the gauge this morning.
Very hot arvo yesterday, had a single mum friend and her twin 13yo boys stay with us Friday night,
so took them out on the river for a couple of hours yesterday around 16:00 till dusk. Caught a
couple of Grunter so the boys were happy, while we just enjoyed a nice sunset on the river.
Long time since I've had kids in the boat, both wanting to fish the same side/rod/lure, lol
Next visit is air rifle..
Well the forecast is for showers or some sort of wet stuff all this next week, hope it's right.
I need more water in my little tank , so I can pull the bore.

Around 3am there was a line of small storms along the coast. A bit of thunder and lightning and a nice shower of rain that continued for an hour or so.

We had a quick little downpour about 1700 yesterday, 2.5mm in the gauge this morning. First rain for the month, it's a start hopefully.

Just threw out a little fertiliser on the lawn as it looked like showers were spreading out from Goldsborough. Of course they dried up straight away 🙄 |
