Still windy here in White Rock 28. The big high in the bight is really stirring things up. Just 0.5mm in the gauge this morning. Thought I'd post the Manhattan graph for 2023 for this area. Amazing that the Dec Jasper rain all happened in 6 days Sept: 19mm YTD: 2693.5mm Edit at 0930hrs: A bit of nice rain around this morning. Only 1.5mm overnight though. Winds have eased a bit inland. Shivering in Biloela at 21° (according to app). Just turned the aircon on and set it to 29°. Hopefully that will be warm enough.

Couple of wet mornings here, 7mm yesterday & 10mm today Interesting radar this morning as 2 systems crossed, with the showers coming from both the SE & NW. Scott , no we don't have river country, just 4ac mostly clear, with a bit of regrowth up the front that council think is rainforest..I have been here long enough to remember when it was all clear, people look at you funny when I tell them we could see the road from a house verandah a few doors up the st, or that there is a bulldozer track up on the ridge behind us, and you could walk the whole way from here to the end of the ridge along the old logging tracks, I'd guess your area would have had the same. You have to know what to look for now, but the evidence is still there, just most are reluctant to see it, because It's the Daintree the oldest forest in the world But I work on a few places around here with both river and creeks that need fencing regularly.. Cheers |

Bunyip. The radar was interesting this morning. I was trying to work out whether it was worthwhile putting my indoor plants out for a drink and just gave up.π€ͺ

Picked up 48mm from a wet day and night, still very gray and cool :( Not really enjoying this event.. I'm already at just over 4.7m so about 500mm over average, will be interesting to see if the wet comes early like a few are suggesting
Cheers

It's felt very cool here the last couple of days with the wind chill. 24°C max yesterday and 22 at 1400 today. Not normal second half September temps. 20mm of light rain in the last 3 days.
Your right Bunyip, it will be good to see how this coming wet goes. We are about 500mm above average this year as well.

Had a random short, sharp downpour last night. I finally managed to set up my cheap auto rain gauge near my Nylex. it measured 1mm and the Nylex 1.2mm, so not that accurate.. Some warmer weather on its way now and a cracking day out the reef yesterday. |

Looks like good weather up until the weekend. The max temps have increased nicely.
Good to hear you had a good reef trip Ron. I've been tempted to get one of those cheap auto rain gauges, especially when it's time to check the nylex in one of those heavy wet season downpours.

52 mm here while I was away..
Holy cow it was cold as soon as the sun went down till mid morning ..i wondered how 28 was doing in armidale as that place is even colder...
We did some spotlighting at night and didnt have the clothes for it or any gloves so that was a challenge...
A few ferals were dispatched though and i have never in my life seen a pig problem as bad as whats down there now....and pretty hard to actually shoot them as the grass and crops are so lush and high...Hare's and Roo's were pretty thick as well...
gee i was glad to hit the coast at Rockhampton and feel some warmth and humidity after dealing with single digit nights..
and just got back in time for march fly madness..oh joy...
I'm glad someone had some fun out the reef though...finally some nice weather for it..

Yep. Pretty cold in Armidale, but the house has heated floors, and the bed a very nice electric blanket. I indulged.
Left there Friday, overnight in Singleton slightly "warmer", and like you Scott it was great when I got down to the coast, south of Sydney. Still pretty cold here. Raining on and off.
Great to see family and friends, but looking forward to getting back to my home country.

43.5mm here for the month, a bit below the 11 year average of 50. Just 1mm in the last 12 days so it looks like the dry is finally here. Hoping for a good storm season ahead.
It's good to hear everyone is doing well. That low down south seemed to stir things up a bit over the weekend.

Water temp has risen roughly 4c in the creeks and inlet over this past week (Sun last was high 23's/Low24c this Sunday nudged 28c by the afternoon), brought a few barra and jacks on the chew, some of the best lure fishing I've had locally in ages. Had a very brief shower around 03:00 but less than 1mm in the gauge.
Good too hear your home safe Scott, and had a successful hunt or 2 as well, always good to remove some feral pressure from the landscape. Yes I'm reading lots of reports of huge pig numbers in some areas after a few good seasons. Wish our Gov would let us hunt State forest & national parks like in Vic.
Hang in there 28, Safe travels.
Cheers

Just the 5mm for the first week of October here. Beautiful spring weather at the moment. I hope some early storms begin to develop soon. Chance of a thunderstorm forecast for the gulf today is a good sign

Yep it certainly is lovely weather. march flies seem to be backing off a little the past couple of days as well.. I have the sprinklers going trying to stop the ground from drying out too much..a storm would be nice. Bunyip , the son of good friends of ours set up a pig trapping company 20 years back but ended up having to close down due to lack of government funding despite trapping in an area where pig numbers have a direct bearing on cassowary numbers and cause a lot of damage to remnant lowland rainforest.....even with environmental concerns seeming to be big on labor government priority list, feral animal control doesnt seem to get enough votes to do anything much about it or allow hunters to thuin them out on public lands.. https://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1029/p20s01-woap.html#:~:text=He%20and%20his%20trappers%20have%20caught%20and%20shot%201,200%20pigsI know how you feel 28..as a youngster i used to love travelling about but these days I only feel at peace waking up in my own bed with my dogs and chickens and familiar surroundings......I'm not even interested in doing the caravan grey nomad thing...I love my peace and quiet and space too much...I think I'd just turn into a grumpy old curmudgeon if I was packed into camp grounds and forced to interact with other travellers and their noisy lives and generators and using public toilets...I enjoy being able to walk outside and pee on the bushes too much which probably wouldnt go down to well in a Big4 holiday park..

There must be warm water in the Gulf of Mexico at the moment Scott, that's a powerful cyclone. I watched a short video on Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013 with central pressure of 895 hpa. Apparently that was the strongest cyclone ever recorded so this one is very similar. A bit worrying in Florida I'd reckon. Edit: It will be keeping the storm chasers busy, they just got home from the last one. Edit 1800hrs 9/10: Hurricane Milton looking very serious now, could be one of the worst ever they say. Edited by user Wednesday, 9 October 2024 6:16:48 PM(UTC)

Yes SM its look rather ominous now although its expected to hit Florida as a low end cat 4 though thats basically a cat 5 here in australia..some wind shear impacting it a bit now though they also are starting to get associated Tornado's starting up as well....gee wouldnt that be fun... My sister in law lives in western North carolina..her property wasnt damaged by the flooding from the last Hurricane but she has been volunteering to help some of the worst hit areas where there was just incredible damage.. I had a read up on that Super Typhoon SM...Third world countries sure arent a great place to live during a natural disaster...they can only estimate the death toll from that one at between 5-10000 people because so many remained missing and they have such a crappy government ... I guess sometime in the next few days we will be hearing sob-stories about all the people along the coast of Florida that are dead because they failed to evacuate even with such good forecasting and plenty of notice...
