Couple of wet mornings here, 7mm yesterday & 10mm today
Interesting radar this morning as 2 systems crossed, with the showers coming from both the SE & NW.


Scott , no we don't have river country, just 4ac mostly clear, with a bit of regrowth up the front that council think
is rainforest..I have been here long enough to remember when it was all clear, people look at you funny when I tell
them we could see the road from a house verandah a few doors up the st, or that there is a bulldozer track up on the ridge
behind us, and you could walk the whole way from here to the end of the ridge along the old logging tracks, I'd guess
your area would have had the same. You have to know what to look for now, but the evidence is still there, just most
are reluctant to see it, because It's the Daintree the oldest forest in the world
But I work on a few places around here with both river and creeks that need fencing regularly..

It's felt very cool here the last couple of days with the wind chill. 24°C max yesterday and 22 at 1400 today. Not normal second half September temps. 20mm of light rain in the last 3 days.

Your right Bunyip, it will be good to see how this coming wet goes. We are about 500mm above average this year as well.

Good to hear you had a good reef trip Ron. I've been tempted to get one of those cheap auto rain gauges, especially when it's time to check the nylex in one of those heavy wet season downpours.

Yep. Pretty cold in Armidale, but the house has heated floors, and the bed a very nice electric blanket. I indulged.

Left there Friday, overnight in Singleton slightly "warmer", and like you Scott it was great when I got down to the coast, south of Sydney. Still pretty cold here. Raining on and off.

Great to see family and friends, but looking forward to getting back to my home country.

Water temp has risen roughly 4c in the creeks and inlet over this past week (Sun last was high 23's/Low24c this Sunday nudged 28c by the afternoon), brought a few barra and jacks on the chew, some of the best lure fishing I've had locally in ages.

Had a very brief shower around 03:00 but less than 1mm in the gauge.


Good too hear your home safe Scott, and had a successful hunt or 2 as well, always good to remove
some feral pressure from the landscape. Yes I'm reading lots of reports of huge pig numbers in
some areas after a few good seasons. Wish our Gov would let us hunt State forest & national parks
like in Vic.

Yep it certainly is lovely weather.

march flies seem to be backing off a little the past couple of days as well..

I have the sprinklers going trying to stop the ground from drying out too much..a storm would be nice.

Bunyip , the son of good friends of ours set up a pig trapping company 20 years back but ended up having to close down due to lack of government funding despite trapping in an area where pig numbers have a direct bearing on cassowary numbers and cause a lot of damage to remnant lowland rainforest.....even with environmental concerns seeming to be big on labor government priority list, feral animal control doesnt seem to get enough votes to do anything much about it or allow hunters to thuin them out on public lands..

I know how you feel 28..as a youngster i used to love travelling about but these days I only feel at peace waking up in my own bed with my dogs and chickens and familiar surroundings......I'm not even interested in doing the caravan grey nomad thing...I love my peace and quiet and space too much...I think I'd just turn into a grumpy old curmudgeon if I was packed into camp grounds and forced to interact with other travellers and their noisy lives and generators and using public toilets...I enjoy being able to walk outside and pee on the bushes too much which probably wouldnt go down to well in a Big4 holiday park..

There must be warm water in the Gulf of Mexico at the moment Scott, that's a powerful cyclone. I watched a short video on Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013 with central pressure of 895 hpa. Apparently that was the strongest cyclone ever recorded so this one is very similar. A bit worrying in Florida I'd reckon.

Edit: It will be keeping the storm chasers busy, they just got home from the last one.

Edit 1800hrs 9/10: Hurricane Milton looking very serious now, could be one of the worst ever they say.
